I live in the grand ole city of Atlanta. I've spent most of my life in NYC. As far as I can tell, there is no sort of etiquette anywhere on any rod in NYC so I never expected any. Moving to Atlanta, I was assaulted with ravings about how Atlanta is a city full of such sweet and caring people; everyone wants to help everyone; there is free delicious Mayfield ice cream everywhere.(The lie hurt the most)
What I have found over the past 6 months, during my 32 mile commute (one way) is that this place is full of inconsiderate, short sighted, sometime plain old ignorant drivers.
I thought a place where everyone commutes a good distance to work would have drivers that understood something as simple as the left lane is for passing, or that the farthest right lane is for traffic merging on. No such luck. My commutes consist of trying to pass someone (surprisingly young someone) on the right because they are doing 54 in a 55. The rest of the highway is going at least 65 but they refuse to go past the speed limit. Good for you, move over!!! So many people have to try to pass them or stomp on their brakes to avoid running over them. I'm not trying to do 90 but I will do 65 and trying figure out a way to go around your ignorant ass is really not the way it is supposed to work.
It is so ironic to see Ferraris and Corvettes cruising in the middle lane and 94 Civics blocking the left lane.
Get your shit together Atlanta.
And while you are at it, learn to drive in the rain.

Atlanta traffic sucks. Second only to the 405 in LA.

I cna't start my own reply thread, because pic related, but I think most people DO understand. The problem is that it only takes ONE idiot to ruin it for everyone.

Sounds just like around here. I have actually got into arguments with people about the fact they are obstructing the left lane. The biggest issue here is that when people obstruct a passing lane in a 2 lane section of highway the cops can pull them over. If they do it in a 3+ lane section technically it's not considered a protected passing area and they don't enforce the law as much... which resulted in laws being passed making passing on the right legal. That's right, rather than force people to learn how to use overtaking lanes, it made more sense to explicitly legalize a more dangerous maneuver.

Nah, that's Buffalo and the surrounding area. It's known as the city of Friendly Neighbors for a reason. We have our share of asshole drivers, but some of the drivers here are too damn kind. I can't even tell you how many times I've been waved forward at an intersection. I had it happen so often that one day, I just sat there until she went because it was her rightful turn dammit, not mine!

Same story everywhere. In my area a non-separated carpool lane opens up about halfway up my commute. I'm flowing along in the fast lane just around this point and suddenly a huge frieght truck that was in the right lane decides to cut in front of me (I basically had to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting him) and across over to the carpool lane....and then, he gets in the carpool lane and slows down to about 55 (i.e. slower than any of the non-carpool lanes), immediately creating a huge line of cars behind him that were hoping to use the carpool lane for its intended purpose.
A minute up the road, another backup in the fast lane (i.e. one over from the carpool lane) by some stupid huge van sitting there doing 55. People just have the worst etiquette.
1- Yes, you may have 2 people in your car thus enabling you to get in the carpool lane - but if you intend to go below the speed limit/ slower than the lane you were originally in, please do NOT get in the carpool lane
2- If the only lane to your left is a carpool lane, then newsflash - YOU are in the passing lane for everybody else. Yes, it might not be the left-most lane, but that doesn't mean you can go whatever speed you wish. Please move over one more lane if you're only keeping pace with the lane to your right and get out of everybody else's passing lane!

I also live in Atlanta and completely agree, but you forgot one thing. In most cities a blinker means I want to change lanes please let me over. But in Atlanta a blinker means I'm changing lanes now regardless of how many people are in my way because if I don't the universe will explode. Also when people in Atlanta are exiting the highway they will stay in the left lane until the last possible second then when they reach their exit it's always a semi-suicidal attempt to cross 5 lanes in 3 seconds.

This is all true. I have found that if you do put on your blinkers, the person in the lane you want to get into will just speed up. Real asshole behavior.
